I was excited to see that there was an update, so I decided to re-install the game. I unzipped the launcher and the game in the same folder, and when it asked me to replace the identical files I said yes to all. Upon running the launcher, it told me it was downloading the update 1/25. Upon finishing the update and clicking launch, it simply opened the folder containing all of the files itself, this happened even when running the "towergirls.exe." I decided to remove the launcher and the files that came with it and the game loaded like normal, but I wasn't sure how to get the update like before, I assume that the launcher is necessary for this. I'd attach a screenshot if I could, it would probably do a better job explaining than I can.

Not sure what happened with the launcher, but you can also simply download the .zip and extract the files from there. That is the most commonly used method.
Thanks for the report, will investigate.

I just ignored the launcher completely this time and used the Towergirls.zip from the link under "Announcements" and "Builds" it has the update, but for some reason the resolution seems lower than before, making some of the smaller text harder to read and making the character themselves look a little pixely, for the lack of a better term.

That's working as intended. I've been playing around with the aliasing in preparation of adding in the animations system. The harder-to-read text will be fixed in the upcoming patch(es).
